Wailing and Gnashing on the Campaign Trail – From Iron Mike Tyson to TKO Trump

September 4, 2015

Professional 3 3836I once read that Donald Trump handed champion boxer Mike Tyson a check for several million dollars, after one of Iron Mike’s celebrated fights, and that Tyson put the check in his pocket and later lost it.   I couldn’t find an online reference, but perhaps I read it in one of the many books by Trump I treasured during the 90s.  What you CAN find online, are reports about how Tyson made $200 to $400 million as a boxer and squandered it all.  Evidently, although Trump was a great supporter, Tyson didn’t learn anything from him about money.

On the other hand, it appears Trump learned a great deal from Tyson about fighting – hit fast and hard and knock opponents out early.  Tyson won his first 19 professional fights by a knockout – 12 of them in the first round.  In the current presidential campaign, that’s what The Donald is doing to other candidates.  If someone throws a jab his way, he throws back a knock out punch.  Just ask any the contenders he has sent to the canvas so far, including Bush, Graham, Perry and Paul.

According to Trump, he’s only punches after another takes the first shot.  But his punches hit fast and hard and may very well take out several contenders in early rounds.  After his comments about Bush being “low energy,” every time you see Jeb on TV he appears – well – low energy.  Sticks and stones may break my bones…and names, thrown via verbal punch by Trump, can hurt  you too – TKO Donald.
