Whether they like it or not, people need feedback to know how they are doing.  Most people need to have their actions affirmed and their accomplishments recognized especially as they learn new things.  Outgoing people often prefer a public display of recognition and reserved types a more private show of appreciation.  Task-oriented leaders are often quick to correct and slow to praise.  People oriented type are usually just the opposite.  It’s vital for you to realize and consciously practice BOTH of these essential parts of developing others.  Let people know how far they’ve come, where they stand today and where you see them tomorrow – and what adjustments they must make to get there!

For this reason Give Praise & Correction is Rich’s Rule of Engagement # 7.
