Vague is Not Vogue – Sending Matched vs. Mixed Messages

March 23, 2013

Do you send mixed messages?  Why?  Is this a deliberate communication strategy on your part?  Or, is it because you don’t want to be direct and hurt people’s feelings?  Perhaps you find safety in being vague?

Congruency is the key to effective communication. Congruency means that your non-verbal, vocal and verbal communication matches.  These three elements are operating in harmony and supporting a singular message.  But how often do you say one thing when you mean something else?  How often does your voice give away your true feelings, despite what you’ve said?  How often do you speak with your lips but talk louder through your actions or lack thereof?

Direct communication is best.  Congruency is the key.  Harmony, or matching of your non-verbal, vocal and verbal communication is essential if you are to be credible, believable and understandable.
